Housekeeper Story: We’re here for the long haul

No two days are the same for Siony, a housekeeper at Best Western Plus Garden City Hotel in Canberra. Siony can be assigned to a large business conference, refreshing the poolside bar and lounge or servicing guest rooms.

“Our role is more varied than most people realise,” Siony explains. “It’s the little chats with passing guests in our corridors that brighten my day. The tourist tips that I can share, or recommendations for local dining.”

As well as a taking on the role of a city ambassador for Canberra, Siony knows that the hotel is relying on her to ensure that all rooms are kept in perfect condition.

“In hospitality, first impressions count. We need to get things right the first time, every time.“

A passionate South Sydney Rabbitohs fan living and working in Canberra, Siony loves that housekeeping work hours allow her time to pursue her interests and hobbies. “Many of us come into housekeeping due to the flexibility of hours,” she says, “but we soon begin to love our work and end up staying for the long haul.”

Having already reached two years’ service with Best Western, Siony predicts many more years to come as an instrumental part of the World’s Biggest Hotel Family.
