Best Western Lonsdale Motor Inn under new management
The Best Western Lonsdale Motor Inn is under new management, with locals Garry and Tania Traynor taking on the property with a view to improving services and facilities for guests.
Garry and Tania have been Hamilton locals since 2005, after selling their Desert City Top Tourist Park in Mildura. They purchased the Lake Hamilton Motor Village & Top Tourist Park in 2005 and four years later they added Hamilton Caravan Park to their property portfolio.
Tania and Garry enjoy the hospitality industry and interaction with their guests. Garry said, “Hamilton is such a vibrant centre and a great city to live with many unique attractions”.
The opportunity to purchase the Best Western Lonsdale Motor Inn presented itself mid-year 2012 when Darryl and Anne Jeffereys decided to sell the motel, with a view to retiring. Upon inspection of the property, Tania and Garry were impressed with the size and quality of the rooms, the motel’s strong reputation with both leisure and business guests, and the central location.
With 15 rooms at the Best Western Lonsdale Motor Inn and a combined 39 cabins at Lake Hamilton and Hamilton Caravan Parks, the Traynor family have a strong interest and representation in the Hamilton accommodation industry.
When Tania and Garry met Mick and Wendy Turner in August 2012, they knew they had found the perfect business partners and new managers for the Best Western Lonsdale Motor Inn.
Mick was raised in Hamilton and completed his chefs apprenticeship at the Grand Central Hotel before heading west and continuing in the catering industry in restaurants, hotels and the mining industry. Mick is enjoying his return to Hamilton, catching up with old acquaintances and having the opportunity to spend more time with his mum and the extended Turner family.
Wendy enjoys interacting with people and has worked in the childcare industry. With her friendly and welcoming nature, Wendy ensures each guest experiences great country hospitality.
Both Mick and Wendy bring with them years of experience in the hospitality industry, having previously run a motel in Port Fairy.
Garry said, “We have had a great response from guests on Mick’s generous breakfasts as well as the spaciousness and cleanliness of the rooms. Above all, the great central location within minutes walk to eateries & attractions keeps the happy guests returning. The swimming pool has also been a great drawcard, especially in the past few weeks”.
Mick and Wendy are looking forward to re-invigorating the motel’s underutilised dining area into a breakfast room to be named the “Merino Room”, recognising the history of Hamilton and the Western District’s strong heritage in the wool industry. The “Merino Room” will also be fitted out and available for small conferences.
