That’s the first piece of advice Peter and Kathy Boland – who own Best Western Cattle City Motor Inn in Rockhampton – received when starting out in the hospitality industry many years ago.
Leah Fryer and Sam Beatty are the hidden heroes of the hotel world – the people guests never see but couldn’t do without.
Both are key employees at the Best Western Plus Apollo International, Newcastle, where Leah runs housekeeping and Sam the kitchen.

Little did she know at the time but Karen Baldwin had the perfect training for her hospitality career from a very early age.
Her parents were deaf and, as the eldest of four children, Karen was relied on to solve communication issues; translating, liaising, ensuring no misunderstandings, keeping everyone happy.
Betty and Peter Corby have only been in Mittagong since December, but they already feel right at home.
The Southern Highlands town – famous for its gardens – is that kind of place; the people are friendly and it’s beautiful too.

Vicki Rabjohns now runs one of the best properties in the Best Western network but that wasn’t always the case…
It was just before Easter, 1980, when Vicki and three generations of her family – led by patriarch Pop, a 5’ 2” dynamo known as Pee Wee – landed in Goulburn to start a new life running a motel on what was then the Hume Highway, the main route between Sydney and Melbourne.
