I’ve managed to take a few days off this Easter, and I’m looking forward to spending time with the family. I’ve had a look at some of the upcoming events on around the country and we are spoilt for choice for things to do!
Whether you’re looking for a relaxing holiday or an action-packed family adventure, there’s an Easter event in Australia to suit your needs. Check out some of my top picks.
Oakbank Easter Carnival, Adelaide
The iconic Easter Racing Carnival at the spectacular Oakbank Racing Club attracts more than 100,000 visitors each year, proving it’s really an event not to be missed. It’s located in the Adelaide Hills, just 25 minutes away from your CBD accommodation, and though the club races four times a year, the Easter carnival is its premier event.
Beginning in 1876, the races have become a true staple of the South Australian Easter holidays. Spread over two days, the jumps racing will thrill singles, couples, friends and families, with a little something for everyone. Head to the grounds on Easter Saturday and Sunday for your fix of fillies and fashion in the field. It’s the biggest picnic race meeting on Earth, and you can be a part of it!
Rip Curl Pro, Bells Beach, Victoria
Located at Bells Beach on Great Ocean Road, this year’s Rip Curl Pro surf tournament is one for anyone who loves sun, sand and, most importantly, surf. It’s in its 52nd year and features the 34 best male surfers from the ASP World Tour circuit, along with a Rip Curl Wildcard and a Victorian Wildcard. The winner gets to ring the prized bell on the last day of the competition, something surfers everywhere dream of.
The Rip Curl GromSearch series will also be on at Bells, aiming to find the best junior surfing talent around. The Pro event is the only professional sporting event allowed to take place on Easter Friday in Australia, so it really is something special. Even if you’re not a huge surf fan, local pubs and restaurants will be turning it on and providing entertainment to make this a memorable Easter break.
Sydney Royal Easter Show
Held over two weeks around Easter, the Sydney Royal Easter Show is Australia’s largest annual event, and is a real must-do if you’ve got kids. It showcases the best of Australian culture, heritage and agriculture, with plenty of carnival rides and entertainment for the whole family to enjoy. There’s an international rodeo series to keep punters on the edge of their seats, along with Australia-themed night entertainment in the main arena.
Take the little ones to the animal nursery where over 1,000 baby animals will be waiting for cuddles – and try to resist doing so yourself!
