Sunday, 13 April 2014

Wollongong Golf Club, one of Australia’s oldest clubs, will announce the opening of several new holes this Sunday, 13 April at its annual open day to mark Stage Two of work completed in accordance with the golf course’s Master Plan.

To celebrate the new holes, the golf club’s onsite hotel, Best Western City Sands is offering a special deal for those who visit the club on Sunday and make a reservation at the hotel between 10am and 2pm.

“Anyone who makes a reservation with us on the day will also receive a free breakfast, upgraded bathroom amenities, champagne on arrival and late check-out included with their booking,” said Nathan Spithill, Sales and Marketing Manager at Best Western City Sands.

“We’ll have an ocean view room and one of our apartments open for people to walk through. All our 20 rooms have great sweeping views of the ocean and golf course or the magnificent Illawarra escarpment.

“The clubhouse is a big driver for golf tourism in the region, regularly catering with a high standard of service for all types of functions.”

Wollongong Golf Club and Best Western City Sands are located at the corner of Bank and Corrimal Street, Wollongong; just a five minutes’ walk to the heart of Wollongong CBD, WIN Entertainment Centre, WIN Stadium, local beaches and attractions.

Key features of the golf course upgrades include:

  • An extension of the opening par-five where a new undulating green has been created at an elevated site beyond and to the left of the original location.
  • The uphill par-four 7th has had the existing green complex set atop a dune redesigned with new bunkering added.
  • The short par-three 17th – one of the most iconic holes on the layout – has a new green, bunkers and new chipping areas.
  • Teeing areas at the par-five 18th have been extended and new fairway bunkers added.
