Australia has more golf courses per capita than anywhere else in the world. We'll walk you through some of the most stunning in the country.
Bonnville Golf Course, Coffs Harbour, NSW
Bonnville International Golf Course is often compared to the immaculate Augusta National, home of the US Masters. Many who play it claim it’s one of the best in the world and the list of celebrities who’ve enjoyed a game there is extensive. The greens rise and dip through elegant stands of rainforest, each fairway isolated from the next. Its great appeal lies in the fact it stimulates and challenges golfers of every standard. Bonville is also a natural sanctuary for a wide range of native fauna including large black cockatoos, parakeets and water dragons. In the evening, wallabies and small kangaroos graze on the light rough.

Proserpine Golf Club, Airlie Beach, QLD
Proserpine Golf Club is a picturesque par-72, 18-hole golf course nestled among sugar cane fields. A creek running through the back nine holes makes it quite a challenge compared to the more forgiving front nine. The opening nine at Proserpine is a par 36 that plays 2874m from the men’s markers and 2740m from the ladies’ tees. The front nine consists of one par 5, seven par 4s and one long par 3. You’ll encounter narrow fairways, sloping greens and a variety of hazards on your journey. On the back nine is one par 5, which is a tricky dogleg with hazards on both sides of the fairway.

The perennially warm climate of tropical north Queensland means it’s good sense to hire a golf cart when taking to the fairways. You’ll be playing in one of the world’s greatest golf locations, where the World Heritage Daintree Rainforest meets the Great Barrier Reef. A tight par-70, 18-hole all-weather course overlooking the Coral Sea, the Half Moon Bay Golf Club offers sweeping views looking west to the rainforest-clad mountain ranges behind Cairns. The membership club with public access is an easy 20-minute drive from the Cairns CBD to the south, or Palm Cove to the north.

Located in the fashionable holiday destination of Port Douglas, the Sea Temple Golf & Country Club has been voted among the top 50 public access courses in Australia and been ranked in the Top 6 Links-style golf courses in the country. Open and undulating, the course conjures up the characteristics of the original British Links where golf had its beginnings. Small bunkers abound, many deep and forbidding, guarding approaches and warning caution.
