Best Western launches Australia's first fully biodegradable hotel products

Best Western has become the first hotel chain in Australia to adopt fully biodegradable bathroom products. With supplier company Concept Amenities Pty Ltd, Best Western Australasia's new shower caps, soaps and shampoos are now fully biodegradable - in both products and packages.

Unlike other biodegradable products, the Best Western range contains the organic additive Eco PureŽ, which breaks down the product and package by turning them into food for microorganisms. This breaks the product down completely.

"We are very proud to launch this range of products," says Spencer Watson, Regional Services and Quality Assurance Manager for Best Western Australasia. "This will reduce thousands of tonnes of plastic waste from filling landfill".

Many 'green' products on the market do not live up to their claims. Most cornstarch, plant-based products currently on the market take a lot longer to breakdown and are only biodegrade when placed in a specialised industrial composting facility. The Best Western products start breaking down immediately when placed in landfill.

"Best Western takes its environmental responsibility seriously," Watson says, "and this is another measure we have implemented to do our part."
