Self Drive Itineraries for Queensland

From the sub-tropical capital city of Brisbane you can head south to the beautiful beaches and green hinterland of the Gold Coast, where the theme parks will delight children and there is something for every age and taste. To the west lie the historic towns and fertile farming lands of the Darling Downs, and a short northern journey takes you to more wonderful beaches along the scenic Sunshine Coast.
Beyond here, rich sugar cane country gives way to rainforest and the tropics, where cities like Rockhampton, Townsville and Cairns feature many attractions for the visitor. Offshore, of course, lies the magnificent Great Barrier Reef and a string of magical islands just waiting to be explored. And inland, the vast Queensland Outback offers even more adventures.
Driving is undoubtedly the best way to explore Queensland, so, to help you plan your motoring holiday, we have included the state’s most important attractions in a series of easily-followed itineraries, most of which are of an achievable three or four days’ duration.
